Abstract
The Museum and Archive of D. I. Mendeleev holds the worlds largest collection of documents and materials connected with the life and work of the famous chemist. It occupies the rooms of Mendeleevs university apartment in St. Petersburg in which the scientist lived from 1866 to 1890. The article describes the history of the museums founding and its current activities.
