Abstract

The paper deals with the discussion that took place in giology between the adherents of fi.xism (who emphasized the vertical movements of the earth crust) and the adherentsof mobilism (who believed in the horizontal earth crust movements). The author demonstra tes that the mobilistic conception, taken historically, only represents a passing pheno menon and will be abolished with the forthcoming development of the Earth sciences.
