“Nauka” (complete official name is The Academic Publishing, Printing, and Bookselling Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences ‘Publishing House “Nauka”’, abbreviated name – Akademizdattsentr “Nauka”) is Russia’s largest scientific publisher of books and journals. Founded in 1923 in Petrograd as The Publishing House of the Russian Academy of Sciences, since 1925 it had been known as The Publishing House of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1934 it moved to Moscow. The current name was granted in 1963. Since 2013 the publishing house is managed by the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations (FANO).

“Nauka” includes six publishing houses (publishing companies), five printing companies, bookselling companies of the “Akademkniga” network (wholesale and retail outlets, bookstores and kiosks), as well as foreign trade company “Nauka-export”. They are located in the largest cities of the country – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Vladivostok and some others.

“Nauka” publishes more than 140 scientific journals in all fields of knowledge. Their content reflects fundamental achievements of the Russian science, studies of prominent scientists, achievements of internationally recognized Russian scientific schools.
